Vision and Values

Our Vision Journey

In the summer term of 2022, the whole Checkendon CE Primary School community – staff, pupils, parents, and governors – worked together to create our shared vision.

Our vision is to unlock the unique voice within each child, fostering a lifelong love of learning and aspiration for excellence. We strive to be an inclusive school family where everyone can flourish and experience life to its fullest, growing within the natural beauty around us and secure in the knowledge of God’s love.

Inspired by The Church of England Vision for Education: Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good,(https://www.churchofengland.org/more/education-and-schools/vision-education)  and guided by Toby Long, our Diocesan School Adviser, and Rev’d Kevin Davis, we chose a verse to root our vision in biblical teaching:

John 10:10“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

In short, we want our children to live, love, and learn.

The May 2024 SIMAS inspection highlighted that:

  • Our Christian vision is inspiring and lived out by the whole school community, shaping both curriculum and relationships.

  • Pupils and adults value and support one another, creating strong, caring relationships.

  • Our curriculum is rich, well-sequenced, and full of memorable experiences, including visitors and outdoor learning, enabling every child to flourish academically, spiritually, physically, and creatively.

  • Worship is calm, reflective, inclusive, and invitational, giving children and staff space to explore our vision and values together.

  • Religious Education is well-led, challenging, and engaging, covering major world religions and promoting understanding of beliefs in a multicultural world.

At Checkendon, everyone becomes part of a family. Older pupils support younger ones, emotional wellbeing is nurtured through strategies like Zones of Regulation, and staff and families work together to help every child thrive. Parents comment on the school’s welcoming and inclusive ethos, and visitors notice the strong community spirit.

We celebrate individuality, equality, and diversity, encouraging pupils to develop resilience, courage, and an understanding of their role in the wider world. Our children engage in local initiatives, charity work, and civic projects, demonstrating that nothing is impossible at Checkendon.

Our Values

Our core values – Respect, Integrity, Compassion, Courage, and Hope – guide everything we do. Children explore these values through Bible stories, collective worship, and the curriculum, and are encouraged to demonstrate them in everyday life.
