Class pages - our learning journey

At Checkendon CE Primary School, every child embarks on an exciting learning journey, starting in Reception – Acorn Class. This is where our youngest learners take their first steps into a world of curiosity and discovery. Acorn Class provides a nurturing, stimulating environment where children develop essential early skills through a mix of play-based and structured activities, sparking a lifelong love of learning.

From there, our Year 1 and 2 pupils move into Oak Class, where they build on the foundations laid in Reception. Here, children embrace new challenges with enthusiasm, developing literacy, numeracy, and creative skills, while growing in independence and learning the value of collaboration with their peers.

In Years 3 and 4, Willow Class offers a vibrant space for deeper learning. Pupils explore subjects in greater depth, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and resilience. Our dedicated staff ensure that every child is supported to grasp more complex concepts while enjoying a broad and engaging curriculum.

Finally, Silver Birch Class welcomes our Year 5 and 6 pupils into the final stage of their primary journey. In these years, children consolidate their knowledge and apply skills across a wide range of subjects. Our focus is on building self-confidence, nurturing leadership, and preparing pupils for a smooth transition to secondary school. Here, children flourish in a stimulating environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and optimism for the future.

At every stage, we are proud to provide a supportive, inclusive community where every child is valued. Together, our classes celebrate learning, friendship, and growth, helping each child reach their full potential.
