Silver Birch Class Blog 2025/2026
Term 1 week 7
This week we have been writing our Greek newspaper stories about the Olympic games. We came up with some great puns for headlines!
In maths we began to look at multiples and some patterns that help us to know what a number is divisible by. Year 6 had a go at a SATS paper and were really pleased with how much they could remember about things we haven't looked at yet this year.
In science we conducted an experiment to see which was the best insulator of heat: bubble wrap, fabric or foil. We had planned our investigation carefully thinking about variables, fair testing and how we could record our results.
"We learnt about the Greek myth of the Trojan horse. I really enjoyed it because there were a lot of silly people." Flo
"Science was fun because it was practical and we did an experiment where there was Danger!" Marley
Term 1 Week 6
This week in Silver Birch we have been learning about the original Olympic Games in Greece. We learnt about the sports shown and who was allowed to compete. We are going to use this research to write newspaper reports in literacy.
In PE we put our netball skills to the test by having some small competitive games.
"What I love about PE is that every lesson we start by practising the skills we learnt the week before and then we learn something new to build on it." Flo Rawson.
Term 1 Week 5
This week has come to an end.
We have spotted and identified fungi in the forest. We learnt some important safety information about making sure we don't eat wild food that we can't identify.
In history we led our own learning with books and thought about what daily life was like for the ancient Greeks.
In PE we were attacking and defending as well as improving our ability to pivot.
In maths we finished our place value unit and we will be doing addition and subtraction next week. Our work on negative numbers really stretched us!
Term 1 Week 4
The term is now racing past and we have been so busy!
We have been:
- Practising for cross country running
- Going to forest school creating conker sculptures and toasting marshmallows!
- Creating electrical circuits to test the conductive or insulating properties of materials.
- Drumming.
- Learning about ancient Greek city states and religion
- Learning some of the Greek myths and creating a formula to write our own "myth".
In maths we have been learning more about place value.
In literacy we have been putting effort into writing really accurate comprehension answers to make our knowledge and meaning clear in writing. We have been working on presentation and spelling and the children are rightly proud of how amazing their books are looking!
Term 1 Week 1
And just like that-week one is over.
We all feel like we have been here forever because we have all settled in so well! This week we have been getting into routine and setting up our books. But we've already done some amazing learning!
Next week homework books and Home reading records will be coming home on Wednesday.
PE is on Monday and Forest school is on Tuesday. Please remember to dress your child for outdoor weather-we do go in all kinds.
